About Ara

As a young woman I always thought I would grow up and be an artist. Life intervened, and as time went by, our 4 children married, our grandchild count rose to 9 and our great grandchildren count will soon be 10.  When the grandchildren were young, I would pull out the art supplies and we all had fun painting, but I was never able to devote real time to it.

So, after a 60-year break, which included a long real estate career, I converted my real estate office into an art studio and started painting almost every day. As I practiced and learned new techniques, I found my ability to paint coming back to me as if I had never stopped. In the spring of 2022, it was time to take the next step and follow the dream I had for all those years of spending time in Italy painting, refining my technique, and getting inspiration from the fantastic Italian seaside towns.

With a big thanks to my supportive husband, we spent 2 months in Italy in 2022, including 4 weeks in Tropea, on the Calabrian Coast in the southern part of Italy so I could paint. While I like most media, watercolor is my favorite.  I packed up my paints and brushes and away we went. I painted every day and took enough photos that, along with the wonderful Half Moon Bay Coastal area where we live, and Santa Barbara where I grew up, I have the subject matter and the inspiration for many years of painting.

My husband Rich and I have lived on the San Mateo County Coastside for over 40 years, enjoying our large, blended, multi-generational family, and actively participate in the local community.  Now I have the added goal to bring the beauty I have found on the California and Italian coasts to others with my art.
